Overview

The Heritage Year’s theme was Sharing Heritage. Around 170 years ago, Lindley designed Hamburg’s water supply and sewer system. Today, a 5,500-kilometre pipe network supplies two million people with drinking water and a 5,800-kilometre sewer system, the “Siele”, carries away their wastewater. About 2.5 kilometres of brick sewers from his time are still in operation.
